Global temperature represented as the so-called warming stripes. The deeper the shade of blue, the lower the temperature. Conversely, the deeper red the stripe is, the warmer that particular year was. The leftmost stripe corresponds to the year 1850, the rightmost to the year 2022. Data from a total of six global temperature models were used for the calculation. The difference between the warmest (2016) and coldest (1862) year is 1.52 °C. The variation of global temperatures is relatively small because extremes average out over the large area.
